| I don't consider myself a comic book reader, I just started buying some issues this past weekend. In Jr. High School I read some and still have the series, mostly stuff like Maximum Carnage and Brood. Anyhow, I'm totally ignorant to today's comics. I've picked up the Dark Tower's first trade (The Gunslinger Reborn) and liked it so much I picked up the entire second series today (The Long Road Home #1-5). I really like these books and not just because I'm a King fan. I like the story, the emotion in the images, and the world in which they live in. I also picked up Kick Ass #1 (Director's Cut Issue?!) and #3, I'll hunt down #2 later this week probably. Not much to say about this series except that I think it kicks ass. (see what i did there?) I guess I'm posting this, now pretty long, thread to see if any of you have been following these issues? I know that Dark Tower has a 3rd series coming out in September, but I need something to fill in the gaps in the mean time. What can you guys suggest to someone that likes said series? The people at the comic shop told me that there is nothing else on the market close to The Dark Tower's style right now, but I'd like to get a second opinion from all of you guys. I've also checked out Walking Dead and Hack/Slash. I'm also reading the Watchmen paperback right now also. Thanks in advanced for your time! P.S. I'm not opposed to comics with tights in them and I just wanted to use this smiley in a post: . | |

| While I do love me some Kick-Ass and I don't want to disparage the quality of the series, I think there's way too much critical hype surrounding the series.
It's good, but there were critics lauding it as the best indy comic to come out this year after only one and two issues. People have said JRjr is doing his best work on the series, but I just don't see it.
I think if you get a superstar artist and superstar writer and have them do a creator-own series for an "indy" company critics will cream their pants over it.

too bad i hate pie. Even sweet cherry pie? It tastes so good it makes a grown man cry. The cake is a lie. Btw, what's a good site to use as a resource for release dates on issues? So you know what's coming out when, ect...

Btw, what's a good site to use as a resource for release dates on issues? So you know what's coming out when, ect... if you haven't found the pull list forum yet, that'll give you your weekly releases on the monday immediately prior. other than that i just use the publishing company's webpage (marvel, dc, vertigo, etc). they're all extremely user friendly.

| I've really enjoyed Kick Ass. I think it's been a fun book. I didn't really like the first Gunslinger series just because it was just an adaptation of of Wizard and Glass, but the new series has been pretty good. Keep reading Walking Dead, it's one of the best books out there. | |

Wow, I think we had a special moment where we actually AGREE on something. Don't get used to it. Yes it is my favorite comic right now. Will it be later? We'll see. But come on... How often do you get a well written story with likeable characters that happens to be about zombies? Never. Thats how often. This will be the only one that is ever good.

Yeah but its not even abut the zombies, its about the people whom the story revolves around. The sombies are merely secondary at this point. beside.... - Spoiler:
the still living are actually the Walking Dead, since they are doomed to become undead when they "die"

I know. thats how I described it to my cousin. He prefers porn over comics and I was trying to get him into something that was actually worthwhile. He never picked it up. But I did get my brother into it. I only own the first 2 volumes but I've read... 7? I want to buy all of them and read it again from the begining.
