Thunderstrike sucks nuts that's why. He should be ret-conned out of existence. I haven't read much JL, but Red Tornado is incredibly boring to me. Never read any Shadowhawk but the thing about AIDS sounds stupid.

I'm on the fence about Red Tornado. He kind of is a dumb idea but he's been written really well.

They may have had dubious sometimes even stupid origins but they've all been written well more or less and have overcome their origins to be decent if not good characters.

I not really a fan of the original Shadowhawk. A vigilante who breaks evil doers backs? Yes cos there isn't enough ppl in hospital needing 24 hour care. But that was only the first dude. There's actually more b4 him, but he's the 'original', the first we saw in a comic. There's some spirit of the Shadowhawk. Kurt Busiek came up with the idea, actually. The spirit is passed from 1 person 2 the next. So there's a knight Shadowhawk, a cowboy version etc. Idk much more n that tho.

Basically he took Hawkman and mixed him with Ghost Rider and that's the mystical component of Shadowhawk.

There's a vast schism between what a regular comic book reader and what someone with only casual familiarity with comic book characters will find cool. Based on things like origins, names, and costumes alone (not how they may have been written in some stories) it's easy to understand how people would find most of these characters lame.

Tornado belongs in the JLA its just that every writer pretends to have a new angle on the character but it always ends up the same him being some sad sack motherfucker which makes him come off lame to new readers
