Snyder just finished Naruto and used that in his ending.

| Does anyone else feel like Snyder's run started really strong and just got super shitty over time?

For me at least, I felt that most arcs were like that. Start strong, fizzle out. Here, I think he was trying to, or mandated to redefine the Bats/Joker relationship, which turned out into a bunch of weird homoerotic fan fiction type stuff, that was subtly hinted at in Death of the Family, and flat out portrayed here. Also I felt like Snyder was drawing from the Naruto finale for the last panels together, they even have a broken heart in blood, aside from the formed one. Also South Park martial arts weapons for the card in the eye, and umm the weird dialogue from idk, internet fan fiction? It gets even more disturbing when you look at their positioning throughout the lover's quarrel.

I remember that Tim (I think?) thought I was crazy for thinking that during Death of the Family. I honestly don't know how to feel about the relationship portrayed between them in this book because it's so different than any other Joker/Bats relationship aside from maybe Millar's. Your points are all good and just contribute more to my wondering how this got past the editors at DC. I mean, this is even stranger than all of the Morrison stuff when you get into the homoerotic subtext and immortal Joker. Court of Owls was near perfect to me, Death of the Family got a little too weird for my tastes, Year Zero started strong and then just felt like it went on too long, and this I kind of didn't like from the start. The fact that this isn't Snyder's last Batman issue after all makes me really disappointed.

Yeah I heard they even changed some dialogue from the singles to the trades, to lighten up on the homoerotic stuff. Here, I don't know how you could fully deny it without some doubt.
