Ahem. Is this thing on? Left-field question incoming.
So we've been using Facebook as the De-facto conversation pit for various topics and discussions for most of the year now. While not being too much different from the topics posted here, the lack of pictures, avatars, emoticons, and the other random bits of crazy have been noticeably absent from the Facebook experience. Surely this has to stop! Thomas and Dante's rejuvenation of the OQL is the first sign life from the mothership in quite some time and seems to mark the coming of an imminent exodus from Facebook. Good news, right?
Yes and no. There is, ya see, a silver lining: The Like Button. Since using Facebook as the site of conversation for the ARA, the Like button has taken on a power all it's own. Agreeing or disagreeing over various topics have been given a whole new dimension of interaction through the simple act of "Liking" something. If there is one advantage to Facebook, this is most undoubtedly it.
So here's my question:
Is there anyway that the mothership and its forum client implement some sort of feature similar to this? In a perfect world, would we be able to add an upvote, downvote feature similar to the one employed by Reddit? Moderators, is this a feasible request?
I am not a programmer, nor do I have any experience running and moderating a forum such as this. I do know that this forum client is fairly common and can be found all over the internet. Perhaps there has been an update or patch that allows for this sort of functionality to be worked into the existing mothership. I really don't know. All I know is that if we truly want to curbstomp our Facebook addiction, this sort of feature would go a long way toward making that happen.
What do you guys think?
