Its another one of those Warren Ellis indie stories. Here's a real brief description...

"No Hero" tells the story of Carrick Masterson, a protagonist Ellis describes as "one part Lex Luthor to one part Timothy Leary," who in the 1960s stumbled upon the secret of superhuman transformation in the form of a designer drug called FX. "The drug FX is a designed alteration of 5-methoxy-diisopropyltryptamine, colloquially known as Foxy," Ellis told CBR News. "It's a less-than-friendly psychedelic whose positive effects include feelings of great strength and energy, intensification of the senses and general unusual stimulation. It also makes you shit yourself and be generally unpleasant to be around."

Interesting concept. Issue #0 was only a buck. I'm an Ellis fan, so I'm enjoying it thoroughly.

I completely missed this...

Was this in last weeks shipment? I'm usually on top of the Avatar titles and don't ever remember seeing this or reading about it anywhere.

Nevermind...it's not out yet. Knowing the amount of variants Avatar likes to print for each Ellis book, I'll just wait to get this in trade...

I thought it was way badass. A real nice follow up to Black Summer, even though the zero is of No Hero came out weeks before the final issue of Summer... How does that work? They're both written and drawn by the same people! I guess maybe it was a coloring thing. It must take forever to figure out what the fuck is going on with Ryp's artwork.

I have to say, I'd love to see Jose Juan Ryp at Marvel or DC, but at the same time, I don't want to ruin him by taking him away from Avatar. He shouldn't have to tone down his violence to sooth the masses. (Actually, he already is editing himself... I saw some really great porno comics that he'd done. Same beautiful artwork, but with lesbians fucking each other for pages on end.)

No Hero seems like it might be a fucked up X-Men clone, which is weird since Ellis is on Astonishing, now.
